Is my child depressed? Check List Inventory

Not everyone who is depressed experiences all of the symptoms listed below.
Depression is indicated if six or more of these symptoms have persisted for a period of weeks or months.
-- A persistent sad, anxious or 'empty' mood
-- Loss of interest in ordinary activities
-- Decreased energy and fatigue.
-- Sleep problems (insomnia or sleeping too much)
-- Eating problems (excessive weight loss or gain)
-- Difficulty concentrating, remembering or making decisions
-- Feelings of hopelessness or pessimism
-- Feelings of guilt, worthlessness or helplessness
-- Thoughts of death or suicide or a suicide attempt
-- Irritability
-- Excessive crying
-- Recurring aches and pains that don't respond to treatment
-- Reduced ability to experience pleasure
-- Loss of interest in sex
-- Reduced self-esteem
-- Periods of intense activity followed by periods of inactivity
-- Withdrawn
-- Being physically slowed down
-- Depressed most of the day
-- Hyperactive or slowed behavior and responses
-- Withdrawal from friends and family
-- Neglect of personal appearance
